The “True Winter” team (Naor, Diego, Charlie and Myself) decided to go to Ad:Tech SF this year to get a better grip on Affiliate marketing and also gain some contacts, and it was an amazing experience!
Even though we did not spend a whole lot of time at the conference it was still great to meet
some of our AM managers and get to talk to some companies that we have not heard of before.
The only thing that really sucked about this trip was the Hotel situation, So we bought our hotel at Hotwire.com and ordered a room for 4 persons near downtown SF, We thought all was well and got a pretty good deal too, That did not turn out to be the case, when we arrived in downtown SF and checked into our hotel room it was probably the tiniest hotel room I have ever seen. I had one full size bed and about 2 feet of room on each side of it and a bathroom, that was it.

We just put our luggage on the bed and left on the search for another hotel, it was about 11:30pm at this time. We then started our great adventure in downtown SF late at night, one thing I have to say about San Francisco is that there are more Crazy people / Bums then any city I have been to, but don’t let that get you discouraged, Its only in a small part of downtown that we did not realize was the worst part of town until later in the trip.
So we finally found a hotel a few blocks away from the Moscone convention center over off 7th ave at around 2am, the reason it took so long was because it was about 85 degrees outside and none of the hotels we where looking at had A/C, I could not believe over 90% of the hotels in SF had no A/C, we soon realized why when the temperature when back down to 65 degrees where it normally is 95% of the year.
We decided to go explore the city, first thing we did was get on the Muni subway (my first experience on a subway) it was pretty interesting as the subway was underground and above ground. We headed out towards Golden Gate Park (which is no where near the bridge BTW), What an amazing park! There is nothing like it to be found in Florida.
After having some (not so tasty) Tasty Curry we headed to some of the local shops for a while.
The next day we decided to rent two Gocars which are small three wheel gocart like cars that are street legal, They where really fun but in the hills of SF they could have put a bigger engine then 50cc’s becuase we where doing about 10 mph up anything bigger then a speed bump.
We saw quite a bit of the city on these little Gocars, we headed out to the Golden Gate Bridge, some of the beaches (did not know they where nude until we got there and lets just say there was no girls there.) went down what seemed to be boot-camp style steps to
the water and turned out to be insane boot-camp status to climb back up.
All in all it was a great trip, we gained some useful informationa as well as some priceless contacts. I would highly reccemend Ad:Tech to anyone looking to get more information about affiliate marketing, or the internet marketing industury alltogether.
